1660 - Berkshire, England - Mentioned in his fathers will, “I give and bequeath to be equally divided amongst the seaven Children which were borne vnto me by my first Wife vizt. Humphry, Henry, Walter, Nathaniell, Benjamin, Francis and Sarah, which shall be layd out by my Executors upon their virtuous . . .”

13 April 1666 - Possible marriage date to either Anne Collins or a 1st marriage to Unknown. (I believe this date is for a possible 1st marriage to an unknown bride) [no proof of this marriage date has been found as yet]
9 July 1674 – First mention of his residence in Newport, Rhode Island. He (being called of London, merchant, residing in Newport), bought of William Richardson, mariner, master of ketch "Mayflower", now in the road of New York, a dwelling house in Newport, now in possession of Amey Paine, widow, tenant of William Richardson. 13 April 1675 - Recorded wedding date to Anne Collins. Thomas Clifton signed the certificate at the Walter Newberry/Ann Collins wedding on 13 April 1675. Thomas Clifton became a Quaker at Rehoboth MA before he moved to Newport, and like other RI Quakers, bought land at Monmouth NJ in 1667. [Edwin Salter, History of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, 1890.]

1675-1680's – “West Jersey” areas are settled, including Salem, Burlington and present-day Camden Co. The settlement of West Jersey on the Delaware River was initially a QUAKER venture, and was associated with William Penn and others involved in the colonization of Pennsylvania. 6 June 1690 - Purchased land in West Jersey. “1690 6th d. 4th month (June). to Walter Newberry of 1,066 acres adjoining Noel Mew.” [p. 682: GLOUCESTER DEEDS.]
7 September 1694 - Owned land in West Jersey containing at least 50 acres. “1694 7th m. (Sept.) for Henry Morley, of 200 a. on a branch of Ancocus Creek and a run emptying into it; also of 50 a. adjoining Walter Newberry.” [p. 372: West Jersey Records, Liber B. Part 2 ]
27 July 1695 - Lived in Newport, Rhode Island but owned land in West Jersey, part of which was located in Burlington. “Walter Newberry of Newport, R.I., merchant, to Arthur Cook of Philadelphia, merchant, for 1,000 acres in W.J., of which 112-1/2 a. are in Burlington town bounds, bought of Walter Clark of Newport May 8, 1689.” [p. 525: West Jersey Records, Liber B. Historic Building Survey of Jacob Evans House Land of Walter Newberry (excerpt) Search of the title to this property back through successive owners as recorded in the County and Province provides the following authentic information.
“By an unrecorded deed of 2 August 1701, Margaret Cook of Philadelphia conveyed to William Evans Jr. of Burlington County, N. J., for 120 pounds a tract of 1000 acres in the latter place ......... unrecorded deed of "ye six day of ye eighth month in ye year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and one" (1701), Himeron, "being an Indian King," gave to William Evens of Burlington County, for 5 Pounds the quitclaim and release to "all that tract of land situated in West Jersey upon ye brances of ancokus creek which was surveyd unto WALTER NEWBERY, it being one Thousand acres". [Original deed in possession of Joseph Stokes, Evans, says De Cou, Moorestown and her Neighbors, p. 127; photostate copy lent to present writer. This Indian deed is mentioned in reference p. 324 but misquoted there, naming Thomas Evans as grantee and the date as 1801. In fact, he was but 8 yrs. old in 1701, and died in 1783.]
It is found on record, accordingly, that this 1000 acre tract, 112-1/2 acres of which were in the bounds of Burlington town, was conveyed from one WALTER CLARK of Newport, R. I., by deed of 8 May 1689 to WALTER NEWBERRY, of same place, merchant; from NEWBERRY on 27 July 1695 to Arthur Cook of Philadelphia, merchant; and from John and Thomas Cook, sons and devises of said Arthur Cook, decd., by deed.”
