NEW YORK FAMILIES

The above photo is of the Newberry Farm in Bellevale, N.Y.  It is still standing and was build in the 1790's.  In the 1990's I put together pages on Rootsweb for the family.

Here is the URL
https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~hannahslife/family/The_Newberry%20_Family.htm

Most of the information on the pages is still correct to the best of my knowledge (2024).  More information about their migration from N.Y. can be found in my book The Quiet Patriarch available on Amazon.  The following slide show is from the New York home.  The Newberry's migration from N.Y. began 1819.

This very traditional salt box style  home was  built in Bellevale, New York by John Newberry, father of my 3rd great grandfather James Newberry (b. 1791) who was one of the first members of the LDS Church.

James' life took him from Bellevale to Hanover, Pennsylvania for a short period of time.  Moving on he went to Brownhelm, Ohio, where his brother John settled on the Black River.  The spirit of adventure took he and his family from Ohio on to Missouri and Illinois with the Mormons when they followed Joseph Smith all over the mid-west. They were driven from one settlement to the next by their detractors and and enemies.  Finally when Nauvoo fell, James with his two surviving wives moved out to Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He held land in several different counties.  His final years were spent in Pottawattamie County at Wheeler's Grove.

Other members of the original family have spread to other parts of the New York and upper mid-west.
